Most lubricants that are used in industrial processes perform a very important function. Namely, they are used to reduce the wear and tear in the industrial equipment and to reduce moisture in it. Additives are typically made up of various chemical substances that are designed to enhance the specific properties of industrial lubricants. The additives give the lubricants benefits such as increased viscosity, reduced friction and wear and resistance to aging, corrosion and contamination.
Some common types of industrial lubricants are: grease, coolants, refrigerants, solid lubricants, pastes, dry film, hydraulic oil, wax, powders, rubber processing oil, and gel, etc. Most industrial grade lubricants are equipped to perform under varying temperature conditions which increase their efficiency. Dry film or solid lubricants are lubricating compounds that are designed to reject water and lessen friction, wear and binding. Many types of industrial lubricants are low foaming, biodegradable or fire resistant.
Some special lubricants are used for some specific functions. For example, pneumatic tool lubricants are special oils suitable for percussion-type, pneumatic tools and rock drills. Most industrial lubricants are easy to remove and improve the surface finish of the equipment. These lubricants also go a long way in preventing the rusting and corrosion of metal surfaces. Some lubricants may be applied by hand however most of them are applied with special types of lubrication equipment.
When looking for industrial lubricants you should consider what type of machine or device it is to be used on and how it is to be applied. If you're sanding or grinding you might use a solid lubricant and if you're drilling, a paste lubricant is ideal. You should also consider the types of lubricants and their properties and features such as viscosity index, pour point, and flash point, biodegradable, corrosion resistance, and fire resistance, etc.
