Lifts are devices that are used extensively in both industrial and day-to-day life activities. Compared to domestic lifts, industrial lifts have a greater load bearing capacity. These industrial lifts play a very important role in many types of industries, such as construction, automotive and telecommunication. Industrial lifts are used not only to transport equipment, but also to transport people to great heights above ground level.

Industrial lifts are differentiated mainly on the basis of their mounting style. Scissor lifts, telescoping lifts and articulated lifts can have either a platform or a bucket built into them for the worker to stand in. Most of these lifts should have safety devices that enclose the area where the worker stands.
As its name suggests, a scissor lift functions similar to the way a pair of scissors does. There is generally a linked set of bars on two sides of the platform that open and close to enable the lift to operate. Telescoping lifts consist of a series of segments that fit inside of one another. These segments function like a telescope does to raise and lower the lift by extending or retracting the telescoping arms. Articulated lifts consist of a series of jointed segments that are designed to unfold to lift the platform or bucket and to fold to lower the platform or bucket.
Lifts are raised and lowered by using different types of mechanisms. Industrial lifts need to be very sturdy and capable of carrying huge loads. Safety precaution is also a concern that needs to be addressed when choosing an industrial lift. Make sure that you set up the lift on flat, stable ground, always use the doors or chains that are provided on the lift platform or bucket, make sure that you stand with your feet on the ground of the lift and don’t stand on any chains or rails, and most importantly don’t put go over the lift’s weight capacity.
